    Page 1: The harbor, late afternoon. Elias Kane stands on the docks beside a wanted poster: Pirate ship Swordfish, reward 5,000 gold.

    Page 2: Kane tears down the poster and boards the ship. A sailor asks, “Trouble, Mr. Kane?” In his cabin, Captain Gray is told, “Captain, you’ll want to see this. Posted at the chandlery this afternoon.”

    Page 3: Gray studies the poster. “The Swordfish. Five thousand gold.” Kane: “Enough to refit her twice over.” Gray: “A price that high means others have tried, and failed. We can do it. We go after her. But not tonight. I want everything prepared for a long journey before we cast off a single line.” Kane: “Aye, Captain.”

    Page 4: The crew loads water, food and powder. The navigator proposes the eastern track, half a day longer but with sea room to maneuver, and Gray agrees. Kane orders the crew: watches as posted, gun crews drill at dawn, and any man not at his station when they sail answers to him.
